ORGANIZATIONS REQUESTED EXPANSION OF TN VISA OCCUPATIONS

In June, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other organizations from the U.S. and Canada submitted a letter to the Beyond the Border Action Plan, which among other things requested modernization of the TN visa occupational categories listed in the NAFTA Appendix.

There have been no additions to the TN visa occupations since 2004, when Actuaries and Plant Pathologists were added to the NAFTA Appendix. As result, there is a dire need for the Appendix to be modernized to more properly accommodate new and emerging professions.

It will be interesting to see what, if any, changes are made to NAFTA and the TN visa classification as result of the Beyond the Border initiative. As provided in my initial post on the topic, according to the initiative's Action Plan improvements to NAFTA were to be established by Sept. 30, 2012.
