Fill in the "H-1B Gap" with TN Status
Canadian citizens currently in F-1/OPT status facing a gap in status from the time their F-1/OPT status expires and the time they are authorized to begin employment in H-1B status (October 2006 if an H-1B petition was filed in April 2006) should consider filling this void with TN status. Filling in this 'H-1B Gap" with TN status will allow an individual to remain and work in the U.S. without the need of returning to Canada after the expiration of F-1/OPT. This would also eliminate the requirement of waiting outside the U.S. before entering in H-1B status in October. TN status can be quickly obtained by presenting an application at a Port-of-Entry or Pre-Flight Inspection office.
