Update to Visas Services in Mexico

On February 3, 2021, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico issued the following updates regarding the processing of temporary visas including TN visas in Mexico:

• Limited work visa processing including for TN visas is available at Ciudad Juarez, Guadalajara, Merida, and Mexico City.

  • However, according to the U.S. Department of State’s website, Ciudad Juarez and Mexico City are processing emergency appointments only. Guadalajara is showing a wait time of 156 days; Merida 197 days.

• Individuals who qualify for the government's interview waiver program may process the renewal of their TN visa at all locations in Mexico except for Mexico City.

• All of the above services "are very limited in availability, and applicants may experience significant delays for visa appointments."

• If applicants have an urgent need for travel, they may request an emergency appointment.

• Routine appointments for applicants not ordinarily resident in Mexico are not available at this time. Any applicant currently residing in the United States who seeks to extend their status with USCIS.

  • It is unclear from this language if individuals who qualify under the interview waiver program, but who have been working in the U.S. under TN visa status will be prohibited from utilizing the interview waiver renewal program.
