TN VISA APPROVED-GRAPHICS DESIGNER; USER EXPERIENCE; FASHION/ENGLISH DEGREES

TN Visa Case Info.

Background:

The applicant, a citizen of Canada, was offered a position as a Designer. We reviewed the position offered and the applicant’s credentials. Based on its job duties, we believed the position could be classified under the Graphic Designer TN category. Although she did not have a degree in Graphic Design, we believed the applicant had sufficient credentials in this field to warrant approval. This was the individual’s first TN visa application.

TN Category:

Graphic Designer

Job title / duties:

Designer. The duties involved the development and creation of the visual designs, graphics, and layouts of the user experience elements for customers’ websites, mobile applications, and other digital products.

As this position may have been viewed as an atypical Graphic Designer position due to its focus on user experience elements for digital medium, we prepared a detailed cover letter with research to support eligibility for the TN under the Graphic Designer TN category.

Education:

The applicant possessed degrees in Fashion Design and English. During her degree programs, she had completed some graphic design-related courses. She completed training in user experience design. She also possessed over 10 years of graphics designer experience. As her education was not exactly in the Graphics Design field, we needed to supplement the application to establish how the applicant qualified as a professional in this field. We included her transcripts showing her related courses, and documented her training and experience in the field. We then supported our argument by including research from the Occupational Outlook Handbook and other sources to confirm that the applicant’s credentials were appropriate for a Graphic Designer position.
